Question:
I have been with the same guy for over a year now. Several months ago we were both treated for an STD. Ever since then I have not been able to have sex with him without it being painful or causing light bleeding. What could be the problem? Could I still have an STD?

Answer: by Yvonne Fulbright: ()
The pain and bleeding you're experiencing could be due to a number of reasons, and it would be best for you to be examined by a physician. You may have a friable cervix (a condition similar to having dry, cracked skin), which is usually due to infection.
If you have herpes, then an atypical case of the herpes simplex virus can cause vaginal bleeding.
You may be experiencing vaginal dryness. Using lubricant during sex can help to alleviate this.
Finally, are you in a monogamous relationship? Even if you think so, make sure you're examined for potential reinfection. A new case of a sexually transmitted infection may be causing your symptoms.
