Question:
Hi doctor it's me again. Sorry to bother you again I feel pretty bad about it. I got some good news and that is my period came this month. But the question is that it came on day 20 since my last period, which was the short one. I was wondering if that's normal because I read cycles are usually 23-35 days (I am irregular myself though)? The period lasted a normal 7 days and the flow was normal too, it ended on the 10th of this month. I also caught another flu during my period (thanks to my sister). My flu ended about 5 days ago but my nose is still runny and that is getting me a little worried because I read pregnant women gets runny noses. AHHHH! doctor I am so paranoid that I am still pregnant. Your advice would be of great help. Happy thanks giving if you celebrate this holiday. I am very thankful for your caring and help.

Thanks again for asking a good question. Don't feel badly about writing. That is what I am here for.

First, congratulation on getting your period, AND it was such a normal one that you can be sure you are not pregnant.

The only reason that a pregnant woman might be more likely to have a runny nose, is that she is not able to take any of the medications most of us take to keep the nose dry when we have a cold or the flu. Those medications cause the membranes to dry up so we don't have that runny nose. Pregnant women are advised to take no medications.

A runny nose is certainly not a sign of pregnancy. Also, the number of days, though on average between periods is 23-35, it is so variable that it is hard to predict. Because you had a short period the month before, it would not be unusual for you to have another one. You said you were regular, but no woman is completely regular. There are always conditions that alter our body so that our periods are affected. I wouldn't worry about it now that you know you had a formal 7 day period with normal flow.

So.....enjoy and don't worry!
