Question:
Since I've had a hysterectomy 12 years ago, my pelvic floor muscles have gotten only worse. The elasticity in my muscles are gone and kegal excercises don't help. My stomach muscles are weak and I have leakage in urine too. I have tried excercising, and going to a few doctors only to be told to live with it. I am not obese and do not smoke or drink, I just feel like a bottomless pit and totally unatractive. I'm in ok health otherwise. I am past frustration and sinking in depression. I feel very inadequate in bed. I have had 3 children. I feel I could benefit from surgery but can't find a doctor that will agree. They say what else do you expect considering my age(44), three kids and hysterectomy. Well its getting to a serious point in my mental state and self confidence. I feel totaly inadaquate as a woman!! This is a major major problem for me and my relationship.

Sorry for my tardy reply, but I hope my information will be helpful to you nonetheless. Over the years, I have seen a number of women in my office with concerns that are similar to yours, and I have recently found a woman physician in Columbus, Ohio who often is able to help these women non surgically. This physician has her own patent for an appliance which provides electrical stimulation of the pelvic floor muscles. The treatment is supposedly painless and helps to tone and rehabilitate the (damaged or aged) muscles. The outcome generally is improvement with problems of urinary incontinence and perhaps, more satisfaction with sexual intercourse. I strongly suggest that you call this person for information on this subject. Perhaps she can assist you long distance or recommend someone in your area who can help you out in a similar fashion. Please use my name as a referral source. Her name is Genevieve M. Messick, MD. Office phone: 614-326-3100.
