Question:
Can cancer of the uterus be detected through a pap smear?

Answer:
by Yvonne Fulbright:
(05/14/2004)
A pap smear is not a reliable test for uterine cancer. If a woman were to have uterine cancer, there is chance that her pap smear results could be abnormal, but this is usually not the case. In most cases, a pap smear will not detect the abnormal cells of uterine cancer. On the occasion that pap smear results are abnormal for any reason, and such results are followed-up on, the uterus is usually tested for abnormal cells as well.
