Ask a Question
Question:
Any lubrication that comes from my vagina is absolutely sporadic. I am often very dry when having sex, even when I orgasm--if there is lubrication it is completely by chance. Occasionaly my vagina will produce relatively large amounts of lubrication for no apparent reason, but it has nothing to do with sexual stimulation. We usually end up using saliva as a lubricant during sex.

Yours is an issue that many women experience. Lubrication is not always a given though the books suggest that women always produce it. They do not. Chances are, that other lubrication that you feel "for no apparent reason" is being produced around the time of ovulation. Physiologically, women produce more lubrication when an egg is ovulated.
You may not be lubricating at other times (or at least lubricating far less than you would like to be) due to your own body's reaction to medication, stress, or individual responses. Many people who have a lower lubrication than they want,(and there are many!), just supplement with a water-based lubricant like KY jelly or Astroglide. There are many water-based lubricants sold in drug stores, KMart, etc. You want it water-based so it will not harbor germs the way an oil lubricant such as vasoline might.
You can put it on fingers if part of sexual arousal is fingering or put it on your partner's penis and over a latex condom. It will increase the pleasure and you won't worry about being dry again. It can be part of your foreplay as well as really enhance arousal.
I assure you that many couples use lubricant for a lot of things, so you will be like many others and be able to find the water-based lubricant in stores quite readiliy.
