Question:
If my hymen is torn and it bleeds, does it mean I have an open wound or a sore?
|
Answer: by Megan Andelloux: (06/16/2005)
Anytime blood comes out of the body, it means there is a possible risk of transmitting the blood to another person, but it doesn't mean there is an open sore. Something could be wounded, and it will heal. When you have your period, there is no sore or wound, but blood can be transmitted and therefor, if you are infected with something, you can pass it on to your partner or vice versa. Your hymen being torn means that it IS wounded, but it will heal within a few days. To protect yourself, use a barrier method (Like a condom), for the next few days if you don' t know your partners sexual history and health.
Not all women bleed when they have sex for the first time because the hymen can and usually is broken before they have sex. It can be broken through horseback riding, gymnastics, using a tampon, falling, etc. Remember also that the hymen doensn't need to be there to be a virgin, guys don't have hymens and they can be virgins right?
Good luck and thanks for writing in!
