well i couldnt find the thing on the gurls page so i am asking this question hopefully u can help me thnxs umm ok my gf vagina allways smells like fish and it all red around her vagina is it cause she shaves or what and y does it smell like fish like it stinks bad and we dont know y i hope u can answer my question thanks

Dear Sir: Thanks for the question. It is not "normal" for women's vaginas to smell like fish and be red around the vaginal opening. Shaving is not associated with this odor problem, but it may cause redness if done improperly. I suspect that she has a vaginal infection that has gone undetected and needs attention from her doctor (gynecologist)asap. The reason why her vaginal opening is red is probably because of a vaginal discharge that is irritating to her delicate tissues.
There is an infection called trichomoniasis (trich for short) that causes a characteristic fishy smell and greenish discharge. Another infection that causes a fishy odor is bacterial vaginosis. These can easily be cured with special antibiotics. So have her call her doctor asap to get a vaginal culture to determine what nasty bug is causing the problem and then get medication. She should then be smelling like roses if all goes well. Don't wait!
