Question:
I am 17 and I have never visited the gynecologist, I rarely even go to my normal doctor because I am so uncomfortable with my body (I am overweight) Should I being going to the gyno now? I have had oral sex performed on me and I have been fingered and I someimes mastrebate, but I am still a virgin. Do I need to make an appointment?

Thank you for submitting your question. Every woman must see a gynecologist once a year as soon as she turns eighteen or once she becomes sexually active (whichever comes first). You are right around that age of 18 and have had oral sex, so you could certainly begin seeing one now. (Remember oral sex is not necessarily safe sex, so if you are at risk for any STD, you need to ask your gynecologist to give you a specific test). As for your discomfort seeing doctors, every person's body is different, and there is beauty in each of us. Doctors will not judge us - they are there to make sure that we stay safe and healthy. Keep thinking positively, and seeing a gynecologist will be easy! Hope this information helps!
