Question:
I have a question about nipple erections. I have soft puffy nipples that rarely become erect. I am self conscious about them. I am 18 and I was wondering if this is normal or a sign of a larger problem. Any insight you may have on this would be grealy appreciated! Thanks in advance for all of your help!

Nipples come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Each person's nipples are unique. Soft, puffy nipples and areolas (the area surrounding the actual nipple) are typical in young women and women that have not breastfed a baby. It is also common for the areola and nipple to be more puffy when the woman's breast is warm and relaxed. Nipples commonly get smaller (contract)when you are cold, or in water, or sometimes when exercising. Nipples, and the entire breast also go through changes in response to the sexual response cycle. Typically, nipples become more erect when a person is aroused. Keep in mind though, that not all nipples respond exactly the same way under the same circumstances. So, relax and enjoy your breasts and the pleasurable sensations they are capable of providing you. If you continue to have concerns, I would recommend that you discuss it with your health care provider. Thanks for writing in!
