Thanks for writing. I don't think it is a stupid question at all. I know that many are frightened of the AIDS virus, and it is important to educate yourself.
First, the wetness that you saw on the seat was probably perspiration since it isn't likely that vaginal secretions can come through clothing that much and make it so obviously wet.
But, that isn't really your question. It is about contact HIV from the vaginal secretions that MIGHT be left around. Yes, there is some HIV in vaginal secretions but as soon as these fluids leave the warm, dark protection of the vagina they no longer become good protection for a very fragile virus. The virus doesn't live outside the body and the very liquid protection well at all.
In addition, it would then have to go through your clothing, and that is absolutely not possible for this virus. If it was highly contagious, many, many more case of HIV infection would be known. It has entry into the body in only a few places and those are places where the thinner mucuous membranes have breaks where it can go in.
You do not have to worry that sitting on body fluids will put you in contact. Only vaginal, anal and oral intercourse are really possible entry behaviors.
Thanks again for your question.Reviewed by Sexual Health Editorial Team
