Question:
Dear Dr. Kat:
I am a 17 year old male. I have an uncircumcized penis but it has little bumps on it. I haven't had sex, and havent recieved or given oral sex. So I ruled out an STD. they have been there for probally 3 years or more, and I am kind of worried. They look like tiny little zits all over my penis, but none of them have black or white heads like normal zits. You can clearly see them when the penis is erect, but they aren't that noticable when it is not. I figured that they might just be hair roots or something like that, but am not sure. They don't hurt either. I am too embarassed to tell my parents, or to go to a family planning clinic or anything like that, so this is basically my final resort. What do you think these are?

While I can't give you diagnosis over the computer, I can say that it does sound like it may be a dermatological issue. Perhaps you can approach your parents by saying that you think you might be having an allergic reaction to something like a soap used in the household and that you think a doctor should take a look at you. That type of phrasing may help you remove the focus that the issue happens to be occuring on your penis. If you are still experiencing the bumps please see a local physician to be sure. I think it would help to alleviate your worry.Reviewed by: Patricia Fawver Ph.D. in Sexology
