Question:
Thanks for the website. My finacee and I are engaged to be married but we have a problem. She says that my semen has an ordor and a bitter taste. This creates a problem with oral sex. My ex wife has told me that this problem comes and goes when I drink beer. I am not circumised. I have heard that a person diet can cause an ordor. Is there a medicine I could take?

Most of my knowledge on this subject is anecdotal. I have often heard rumors that drinking a lot of pineapple juice, for instance, will make seminal fluids taste sweeter. I'd like to be able to give you an answer that is based on research, but I'm not sure that this is a topic being researched heavily. :) I know of no medication that alters the taste of seminal fluids. However, I did a little searching on the web and I found this tidbit from the alt.sex frequently asked questions on fellatio: "Macrobiotic nutritionists have actually done research on this question, and the answer is in: you are what you eat. Common sense dictates that if you taste good, your lover will want to eat you more often, so improving your body's taste and smell should be important to you." "In general, nutritionsists say that alkaline-based foods such as meats and fish produce a butter, fish taste. Dairy products, which contain a high bacterial putrefaction level create the foulest tasting fluids by far. (Dissent: almost everyone I know says that there is one worse than a high-dairy content-- asparagus. You can't miss the taste of asparagus-laced semen.) Acidic fruits, such as sweets, fruits, and alcohol give bodily fluids a pleasant, sugary flavor. Chemically processed liquors will cause an extremely acidic taste, however, so if you're going to drink alcohol, drink high-quality, naturally fermented beers (Rolling Rock or Kirin) or sake." So, there you have it. Elf (the keeper of the FAQ) says that there is research on the subject, although as I said I'm not familiar with it. This should give you a starting point, though, to think about how to modify your diet. Additionally, I have heard that smoking makes a difference, although again, that is anecdotal. Another question should be addressed here. Think about why it is important to you (or both of you) that she learn to enjoy the taste of your seminal fluids. I know a number of people who do not like this taste and can still give their partner pleasure through oral sex. Instead of ejaculating in her mouth, you could let her know when ejaculation is going to occur. She could then have you ejaculate on her breasts or something equally sexy to both of you. What I am trying to say here is that there are ways around this. If she never learns to enjoy the taste of your ejaculate, you can still have a rich, full and erotic sex life. Try not to take it personally if she doesn't enjoy your taste... it's not a rejection of you, after all. If you still need help with this issue, I'd suggest speaking with a sex counselor. You can find one through AASECT. Good luck! Blaise
