Question:
im concidering giving my boyfriend oral sex and ive heard a lot of stories about swollowing and spitting...if you swallow, is there a risk of any infection or pregnacy or will the sperm be killed in your stomach? is it better if he uses a condom??

Thank you for submitting your question. I am so glad that you decided to contact me before engaging in any potentially unsafe behavior. You have heard right…oral sex is NOT safe sex. While you CANNOT get pregnant, unprotected oral sex DOES put you at risk for contracting a number of sexually transmitted infections (including genital herpes, genital warts, and HIV). Because your gums are sensitive (and can tear easily), there is always a risk for some type of infection. If you want to perform oral sex on your boyfriend, then it is important that you use protection. There are non-lubricated condoms (some come in a variety of flavors) that are specifically designed for oral sex. Do not use lubricated condoms because the spermicide may taste bad and can make your mouth feel numb. You should feel very proud that you have decided to take the necessary precautions before engaging in any sexual activity. I hope all goes well.
