Question:
Hi. How r u? Some background information for my question is as follows: My boyfriend is 21 and he is excited very easily. He's the only boyfriend that I've ever had and I've been with him for almost 3 years now. My question is somewhat simple, but I hope u can answer it...I've been wondering about this for a while now. When my boyfriend is excited he gets an erection, but he also leaks. Is this leaking semen or is it something else, does it contain sperm? And is it normal? Do all guys leak when they are excited? Thank you for your help.

You are probably describing the pre-secretions or (pro-semen) which are the secretions produced during sexual excitement to change the environment of the urethra from acidic to alkaline to be more suitable for the passage of sperm during ejaculation. Such secretions are normal & harmless but must be differentiated from urethral discharge that is not related to sexual excitement & may be related to chlamydial or gonorrheal infections. Best wishes, Hussein Ghanem MD
