Question:
My husband and I have been married for 15 years and we always had a great sex life until the last three or four years. I can't seem to keep him hard any more. He says it's not me, but if it's not, what could it be? We live in a small town and he doesn't want to go to the doctor.

A consistent problem with inability to initiate or maintain penile erection for satisfactory sexual performance is called erectile dysfunction. There are many reasons for erectile dysfunction including psychologic issues such as depression or anxiety. Physiologic issues are also common. They include hormonal, neurologic, vascular and other concerns such as medications. Although your husband does not wish to see a physician, erectile dysfunction can be sign of early diabetes or early heart disease. Erectile dysfunction is similar to any other medical problems - such as pain in the hip - a visit to the doctor is indicated.
