Question:
I am 19 years old almost 20, im overcoming alcoholism, i also smoke, i smoke mostly on weekends i recently had a checkup about my smoking and came out with "Good results" as im a regular walker and usually exercise every time i can, my problem is premature ejaculation, at first i attributed the problem entirely to my alcohol consumption but as i started to put down alcohol and my sex health didnt improve i started suspecting about another thing, excess masturbation, i used to masturbate 2 times a day and sometimes even 3, is that the cause for my premature ejaculation?, im also practicing some kegel exercising with the "Super Kegel Exerciser" since i read those exercises could improve my sexual health, honestly i havent beeen exercising a lot with it but it have done it for more than 3 weeks and havent seen a bit of progress, premature ejaculation is still there, now i took a decision of not masturbating for an entire week and im taking a regular multi-vitamin that i bought at the drug store, i just want to see if there are any good results, am i on the right track? What should i do? Should i go see a doctor or what? Thanks

By most statistics, premature ejaculation is the most common complaint among men. The actual treatment is different for every man. It may be helpful for you to work with a qualified sex therapist or other health professional to examine this issue. Masturbation does not cause premature ejaculation. It is common for teenagers or young adults, particularly males, to masturbate frequently. There is not a normal or proper number of times to masturbate per week. It is important to make sure that masturbation does not interfere with your daily functioning, such as getting work done. It is also important to feel that you can control when you masturbate (e.g., being able to control when and where you masturbate). It is natural to have sexual feelings or urges and it is normal to masturbate as one way of expressing sexual feelings. Your experiment of going without masturbation for a week is a good one. This might help you decide if you can control your masturbation. Frequent alcohol use and tobacco use is counterproductive to optimal sexual functioning in the short-term and long-term. Thus, I recommend that you quit smoking and use alcohol only in moderation. Alcohol abuse and tobacco abuse can be a sign of a maladaptive coping strategy or “medicating” an underlying problem with depression, anger, or anxiety. (Compulsive masturbation can function in the same way.) If there is an underlying mood disorder, this may be related to the premature ejaculation in some way. A good sex therapist can help you examine this possibility. To further explore premature ejaculation on your own, consider buying the recent book “Coping with Premature Ejaculation” by Michael Metz and Barry McCarthy. Consider buying the classic video You Can Last Longer, which is easily available from many outlets, such as Good Vibrations or the Sinclair Intimacy Institute.
