Question:
I have a ring of friction burn around the upper shaft area of my penis. I also have a red friction-burned line from the head down to the base on the penis' underside. This was caused by improper technique/ rough masturbation. These bruns or chafing is embarrassing and I would like to know if there is anything I can do to get rid of them so my penis will once again look healthy. It may be of note that I have been circumcised. Any help/advice would be helpful.

Hello! Thanks for writing in with your question. If I understand correctly, you have friction burns on your penis from rough masturbation. What isn't clear to me is this: 1)When you say the problem has been going on for six months, do you mean that the marks on your penis are left over from a masturbation experience that happened six months ago? Or, do you mean that you have been masturbating in the same manner for the last six months and you continue to get new friction burns each time? If the burns are left over from six months ago, that is a long time for a skin disruption to last and if they are simply friction burns, they should have healed and gone away by now. On the other hand, if you have been continuing to masturbate in the same way, you have probably been re-irritating the same tissue in the same spots over and over again. Many people tend to masturbate with the same kinds of stroking or rubbing motions in the same areas, so it is entirely possible for an area to get sore. Genital tissue is quite sensitive and can easily get 'rubbed the wrong way'. I am also interested to learn more about what you mean by 'rough' masturbation. Are you using things to masturbate with? Materials to masturbate into or against? Are you using any lubrication when you masturbate? Many people find masturbation more enjoyable when there is lubrication involved. Most commonly used lubricants are saliva and store-bought lubricant made especially for use on the genitals. There are many products available at drug stores or grocery stores. They are usually in the same aisle where the condoms are located. KY Jelly, Astroglide, and Slippery Stuff are three well known brands, but there are many others as well. Try some lubricant or saliva and see if that helps with your friction burns. Feel free to write back if you have any further questions. Thanks, Patty Fawver
