Question:
Sometimes when my boyfriend orgasms it seems to go on a long time, in waves as it were. Once it was as though he was having up to 8 separate orgasms - we counted. There is usually quite a few minutes in between but he stays erect. On the later occasions his ejaculate is quite watery. He does not express any discomfort - infact quite the opposite. Is this normal? I just didn't realize guys could orgasm that many times in a short space of time. It almost seems too good to be true? I feel abit silly for asking, but just wondered.

Well, don't feel silly for asking, please! I'm sure most women would wonder the same thing. Your boyfriend is quite lucky to experience multiple orgasms. It is not as common for men to experience this as it can be for women, but is not impossible, or abnormal. Two famous sexologists (Masters and Johnson) did a lot of research on sexual arousal and the sexual response cycles of men and women. They came up with four phases in the sexual response patterns of men and women: excitement, plateau, orgasm and resolution. They also include a refractory period for men - which is a temporary stage after orgasm where there is an inability to start the excitement phase again for a period of time (this will vary with age). It is possible that your boyfriend is experiencing a series of preejaculatory orgasms that culminate in one final orgasm. In another study of men's multiple orgasms, the key seemed to be that the man was able to withhold ejaculation, as the final orgasm in the series, accompanied by the ejaculation, then triggered the refractory period. In other studies, some men reported orgasm-like sensations with no fluid, or little fluid, then a big ejaculation, some reported a large fluid ejaculation with "dry" orgasms following, and others reported a combination of the two. Often, men are conditioned to work toward orgasm as the final goal of a sexual encounter, so the fact that your partner is able to enjoy multiple orgasms with you is quite special for both of you I am sure! Enjoy!
