Answer: by Annette Owens: ()
Possible sexual side effects of Zoloft include erection difficulties and problems to ejaculate. The book “Sexual Pharmacology” by Crenshaw and Goldberg has a whole chapter on sexual side effects of antidepressants (see the link on the right). Zoloft is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, or SSRI. Most of the side effects are thought to occur through mechanisms in the brain and interference with the neurotransmitter serotonin. I have never heard that antidepressants (SSRIs) could affect penis growth.
If you are worried about lack of physical development of your genitals I would encourage you to ask your physician to test your testosterone levels. You mentioned that “my curiosity has turned into violent anger to know what is going on.” Please seek help in order to deal with your anger. The physician who prescribed the antidepressant when you were 14 (6 years ago) was trying to help you cope with some problems, and it is unlikely that the medication had an effect on your penis size.
Sincerely,
Annette Owens, MD PhD
