Question:
I am (M) 32 and my right testicle is always residing
extremely high up in my scrotum (right next to my
penis) I saw a doctor. He diagnosed a hernia and that
my testicle twists easily. I now had surgery for the
hernia and my testicle was attached with a few
stitches to prevent twisting. However it is still
extremely painful and my testicle still is retracted high
up next to my penis. Also I feel like a nerve that is
connected to my testicle and that enters my groin is
'pinched'. Does it make sense to remove the testicle all
together to get rid of the pain? I am worried because I
read that more surgeries cause more scar tissues which
results in more pain. Thanks for your reply.

It is very hard for me to advise you about whether
to remove your testicle or not. That question
can probably best be answered by the surgeon who
performed the initial surgery. I would
recommend to consult with him or her. And you may
even want to get a second opinion from
another surgeon. It IS important to address this issue
since extreme, constant pain is
unacceptable. How long ago did you have the
operation?
If it was a recent event the pain may still
resolve after the healing process is complete.
If you decide to have your testicle removed, I would
encourage you to consider to deposit sperm
in a sperm bank prior to your surgery, regardless of
your sexual orientation, your family status
and future plans. You may wish to father a child in
the future. Having one functional testicle
should be sufficient for reproduction, but I would
consider depositing sperm just to be on the safe
side.
Good luck. I hope you will find a way to manage your
pain.
