Vasectomy is a safer and easier means of surgical sterilization, with very reliable results. The failure rate following vasectomy is one of the lowest recorded - 160 out of 100,000 men on a lifetime basis (It varies from clinic to clinic).
As to safety - vasectomy carries very low risk of complications when performed by experienced surgeons (43 per 100,000 vasectomies compared to 6000+ per 100,000 abdominal tubectomies, according to a large scale study).
It takes only a few minutes for this minor surgery, performed under local anesthesia as an office procedure, and you can go home within minutes after vasectomy. Reviewed by: Scott Gross M. Ed.
