Question:
When a virgin goes to the Gynocologist for the first time, does the doctor break the protective membrane during the papsmear, or will it be broken during sexual intercourse? Can sperm enter into the vagina before the membrane has been broken?

Hi, Thank you for this good question. The hymen quite often has a tiny hole in the centre of it in order to allow the products of menstruation out, and yes, sperm can get in. The hymen can tear relatively easily. A careful gynaecologist will not cause any tearing during examination, and will take a smear through whatever opening is available -- if it is possible. They hymen will tear when any object including a penis is fully inserted into the vagina. This includes tampons, dildo, vibrators etc. The hymen can also tear during strenuous physical sports and horse riding. Best Wishes, Melissa BEE
