Question:
I'm 24 and I have tongue-tie (ankyoglossia). I would like to have surgery on my lingual frenulum because it is affecting my girlfriends' and my relationship, as suggested by Caroline Bowen PhD at http://members.tripod.com/~Caroline_Bowen/tonguetie.html , but she doesn't directly suggest surgery for the reason of a relationship. Could you recommend me to go ahead with the procedure?

It's difficult to understand how your relationship will improve after surgery. Are you are seeking clear speech and/or more intimate kissing? If you perceive that surgery is going to help you in resolving these or any other problem (that's in your mind), seek an opinion of a surgeon who will be able to explain the pros and cons of the surgery so that your expectations remain realistic. Be specific and get all your doubts cleared before opting for surgery.Reviewed by Sexual Health Editorial Team
