Ask a Question
Question:
I am a 32 year old graduate student, studying at Columbia University for a MSW in Clinical Social Work. I am an activist and have worked in the concentrations of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, and I love Wendy Maltz and her work. I have benefitted from her work myself, and I constantly refer her book, "The Sexual Healing Journey" to clients, and anyone struggling to overcome the trauma of sexual assault. I aspire to achieve many of the goals that she has in her career and would love to receive an email from her. I am willing to volunteer with her, intern, or assist in any way. I love her work and greatly admire her accomplishments. I would be honored to have an opportunity to learn from her directly.
One of my Columbia professors suggested I try to email her or reach her via the internet.
I also think that this service is wonderful.
Thank You,

Answer: by Wendy Maltz: (05/18/2004)
Dear,
Thank you for your great feedback and generous offer to help me help others overcome sexual problems caused by sexual abuse! The most important work needed at this time is in educating the media about the existance and importance of sexual healing. Many people continue to suffer unnecessarily from the intimate repercussions of sexual abuse. Some survivors don't realize why they have so much trouble sexually, and many others are unaware that effective sexual healing techniques exist.
I recommend that you (and others who are interested) write your favorite national magazines, newspapers, television shows, and radio shows, and encourage them to do stories on how survivors are learning to reclaim healthy sexuality after experiences of sexual abuse. The wiser the media becomes about these issues, the more people will eventually be reached. This knowledge has the power to reduce much suffering. Together we can spread the word that help exists for healing even the most intimate wounds of past sexual abuse.
[in response to your personal offer to help, please feel free to write me a letter detailing your interests, backgound, and availability. My address is Wendy Maltz MSW, c/o Maltz and Associates, P.O. Box 648, Eugene, OR 97440.] Reviewed by Sexual Health Editorial Team
