Question:
Dear Doctor,
I am sure you must be having a hectic schedule, but I request u to kindly help me by suggesting something about my son’s problem who is just 5 ½ years old.
He is having a poorly developed penis. So far I have consulted a few doctors(Endrocrinologist, Pediatrician & a Urologist/andrologist). They say that everything is normal and that nothing needs to be done. The pediatrician and the endrocrinologist also mentioned that he is suffering from a buried penis, however the andrologist I consulted says that it is not even a case of buried penis. He said everything is normal and that things will improve when he will be around 9 yrs. old. My son is not at all fat, rather he is quite slim. We are very tensed as we have never come across any child even younger to him by a few yrs. having such a small penis. The very sight makes us nervous. The penis remains in a shrunken state most of the time as if there is no penile shaft. We have also noticed that sometimes during night when we change his clothes we find the size quite ok (around 3 to 3.25 cms) but the very next moment it shrinks back. He is unable to retain that size. In shrunken state it is around 2 cm only. These days he gets morning erection sometimes and that time the size becomes around 4.5 cms.
The doctor also says that if at all any treatment is required it can be started at the age of 9 yrs. My son otherwise is very active and has all characteristics of a naughty boy. Does it mean that there is no chance of any hormonal imbalance? If so what can be the possible treatments then?
i) Is he suffering from buried penis? What does it mean?
ii) What are the worst possibilities for which we should be prepared of? Is there any treatment / surgery for this?
iii) Is it a case of hormonal imbalance?
iv) Is there any treatment for this? Is testosterone injection the only treatment to this? Are this effective? If no hormonal imbalance is found then whether these testosterone injections will help in any way?
v) Is it a fact that there is nothing much in medicine that can be done to improve this problem?
vi) Is there any chance of inheriting this problem from older generation?
I would like to point out that I have been suffering from sexual problem from the last ten yrs. The problem I am facing is perhaps contrary to the beliefs/theories of allopathic medicine. But I request you to kindly believe me and help me with some information about my problem.
I have read everywhere that the size of the penis cannot come down from what it has attained till puberty? Whenever I go to a doctor I am told the same thing. I have also read it in all the magazines and health articles. But I am facing this problem for the last 10 years? Before that I was perfectly normal with a penis size of around 4 inches in the flaccid state and around 7 inches in erected state. Now it is terrible as it is hardly 2 inches in the flaccid state and around 5 inches (maximum) after erection. It has also become very very thin. Particularly the shaft has become very thin and the penis remains shrunken as if there is no penile shaft.
In the shrunken stage it is around 1.8 to 2 inches.I have also noticed that my nipples also remain soft and retracted most of the time. It remains retracted most of the time? What am I suffering from ? Will I ever get the answer ? I do get desire & erection but it is nowhere like what it was before . I am really confused. I have heard that sometimes the penis is unable to hold sufficient amount of blood in flaccid state. Is it because of this? Is there any treatment by which the shaft can retain its position? I am mainly concerned about the size in flaccid state as it remains shrunken all the time(As if there is no penile shaft). This problem was also accompanied with frequent urination. Two years back the frequency had gone up very high. I was then operated for stricture urethra. Since then my urine frequency has stabilized and I have noticed an increase in the number of times I have sex (around 6 to 12 times a month), although the rigidity and duration are not all that good. Although I am not much tensed about my sexual performance I feel very uncomfortable and remain tensed mainly because of the penis size in flaccid state. The penis also remains too soft as if there is no blood inside. For the last ten years I have been running to different doctors and even ayurvedic practioners but nothing has helped me. A few yrs. back I was given a course of testosterone injections during which I noticed that the testes size also started shrinking and it became very small . I am thoroughly dejected as I think I must atleast know my disease and the reasons even if it is not curable. When I am told that I am ok and that size of the testes and penis cannot come down I donot know what to say and where to go. Please suggest.
