Hi and thanks for your questions. You've raised a couple of issues that I think you need to discuss pretty seriously with your boyfriend. I'll try and address your questions in the order you put them. 1. Allow me to make this pretty clear. Having sex during or immediately after your period does NOT protect you from getting pregnant. There is a very good chance that you could have gotten pregnant from either one of those times you had sex. Sperm (the little microscopic tadpoles in a man's semen or cum) can live inside of a woman's body for up to 5 days. Most women really don't know when they've ovulated (released an egg) (ovulation normally occurs in the middle of a woman's cycle), and many, many women have irregular menstrual cycles. These are dangerous odds to play with. If you wish to have sex with your boyfriend without condoms (I don't recommend it especially if either of you have or have had other partners), then I suggest you use a highly effective birth control method like the pill, patch, ring, or shot. 2. You don't ever need to wait any days after your period to have sex. Having sex any time during your cycle and during your period (when you're having your menstrual flow) is perfectly safe and normal. However, scroll back up and re-read my answer to number 1 as to why you should always be using birth control during sex. 3. Having your period come early after intercourse is pretty common, especially if you don't already have a regular period or if you're young. The physical act of intercourse can shift things around in your abdomen as you change positions and as the penis enters your vagina. Furthermore, a woman's orgasm also causes her uterine muscles to contract which can also start your flow. This is pretty normal, but if it seems like your period is coming way early, then you may want to speak to a doctor about it. Take care, Scott Gross
