Question:
I am a twenty five year old female. My husband is thirty. We were married for three years. For the first two years we were using condom. Now for about an year I am trying to conceive but in vain. Now suddendly..from the past 3-4weeks(after my last periods & this period)my vaginal opening/end is itching. Irritation previals and intercourse causes lot of pain during and after. I don't see any abnormalities/reddishness. There is slight pain sometimes during urination. My periods is abnormal after marriage with lots of clots and thick, dark, too much discharge while urination. Recently, from about 6months I notice that my white discharge turns to brown and sticky close to periods and 2-3 days after periods. Is these normal or something to consider serious. I dont know whom to speak with. I afraid that only I am having such problems.... These sudden itching in vagina affects me a lot as I said I am trying to get pregnant. Please do help me as soon as possible.....Thanking you.

Hello and thank you for your question. You have mentioned a number of concerns and I will try to make sure that I address all of them. There are a number to things that might be causing the itching and irritation you are experiencing in your vagina. It is possible that you are suffering from a urinary tract infection now that you are no longer using condoms with your husband. A urinary tract infection (UTI) is not a serious condition, but can be very annoying. They can also be avoided by making sure that you urinate after intercourse to help flush bacteria out of your urethra (or the hole your urine comes from). A doctor's visit can also confirm that you have a UTI and to help clear it up.

You could also be experiencing symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection or disease (STI/STD). Whether you have an STI/STD or a UTI it is important that you go visit a doctor and have that person perform an examination to determine the cause of your discomfort. A doctor will be able to give you medicines or creams that will help ease your discomfort better than coconut oil or vasaline.

As for your concerns about pregnancy and your menstrual period, you haven't mentioned anything out of the ordinary. Often when couples are trying to get pregnant they find that it is actually rather difficult to become pregnant. Stress about becomming pregnant can be one factor that holds them back. The change in color of your discharge around the time of your period is normal, but it is really great that you are aware of those changes because any change in color or smell which seems sickly or bad (i.e. smells bad) can be an indication of something out of the ordinary. This is something else that you can mention to a doctor and they can give you a better idea of what causes the change in discharge.

Make an appointment with a doctor to get examined for your peace of mind, and good luck. I hope my answer has helped you and feel free to ask other questions if you have them. Take care, Scott Gross
