Question:
I am wondering- can you get a pimple on the hood of the clitoris? I had swelling and a single bump on the top of my hood. I had a Doc look at it who said "pimple", but cultured it at my insitence. SHe said ti would likely come to a head like a pimple, but it just seems to be going away without popping. It was exremely sensitive to the touch, but less so now. But, I am nervous because I have also read on the web that you cannot get acne in this area. I had a external yeast infection (diagnosed by a doctor) and I was applying a topical treatment- could that cause a pimple? can lubrication? I know some past questions say it might be something pimple-like, but is it actually a pimple? clogged pore even though there is no hair there? thank you very much

Hi and thanks for your question. While I have personally never heard of or seen a pimple on a woman's clitoral hood, I have seen pimples on the shaft of a man's penis which also does not have hair folicles or noticeable pores to clog. I am also not a medical doctor so I don't have a chance to do physical examinations of this type. I think it's great that you went and got it looked at, and also that you continue to be aware of changes in your body. While it's probably not common to get pimples in that area due to the skin type and lack of pores, I can't imagine that it would be impossible. Also the topical cream you were using and lubrication could cause a pimple to form if it was allowed to dry on the area as well as sweat or dirt. If you have already noticed a lessening in the sensitivity and that it seems to be going away, then I think it was just a pimple that has healed normally. While uncomfortable, pimples in the genital region are not dangerous nor uncommon. As I said earlier, I think it's great that you are so aware of changes in your body and so comfortable with touching and looking at your body. As long as you manage your risk factors, stay aware of any changes of your body, and checking with a doctor when you are concerned about something, you'll get through life quite well without needless worry. I hope this answers your question, but if you have others please feel free to ask them. Best of luck, Scott Gross
