Question:
I am 24 and am sexually active with a 39 year old male. 2 yrs ago he had cancer and Dr.s went in a removed the cancer from his scrotum. Obviously there was concern on wether he was going to be able to be aroused after the surgery and after three months, all was working. Over the past two years, the sex has remined constant in the fact that after pentration, he cums in around five minutes. As of late he has had some thyroid issues and is on some new meds. The last few times we have had intercourse he has been aroused for over an hour, which I am not complaing, but after he ejaculates, he has a rapid heart rate. I am concerned if it is the medicine he is on for the thyroid. He had been checking into viagra without my knowledge and I am also wondering, if he has taken the viagra, would this be what is causing the rapid heart beat? I will admitt that the relationship I am in is of a sexual nature only, he is married, and I am unsure if this is a constant problem, or if it is just with me.

Dear Miss Kris- Based on what you wrote in I would be VERY concerned that he has taken viagra and YES, it can cause rapid heart beat and prolonged erection's. Viagra works to keep the penis hard, not to prolong ejaculation. There are tricks he can learn to prolong intercourse and delay ejaculation, like breathing in through his nose and out through his mouth. Not thrusting with his butt muscles, but rather having his penis act as his guide, leading in with his penis, not butt muscles, will prolong ejaculation. Pulling out right before he feels like he's going to come, waiting 30-60 seconds and then entering back into you are all ways to last longer without the help of any pills. I would sit down with him and have a serious discussion. Viagra can cause death due to heart attacks in some men. Tell him there are ways to prolong his erection without the use of a pill. Inform him of ways he prevent himself from cumming before he and you are ready. Let him know that an erect penis is not necessary for a good time (hello, oral sex anyone?) But be clear that you don't find heart attacks after sex sexy. If he states he is not taking viagra, have him go the doctor, or at the very least, call the doctor or pharmacy up and ask if this rapid heart beat is a side effect of the medication he is currently taking. If it is, they will yank it and replace it with something else. Good luck and thanks for writing in! Megan Andelloux
