Question:
My girlfriend and I were recently dry-humping. I was wearing a shorts and underwear while she was in her underwear. Her underwear was small, thong, and I came while she was dry-humping. When I came it soaked through my pants, is it likely that she could have gotten pregnant?

No, it is not likely at all to get pregnant in this manner. The sperm would likely have been absorbed into the three layers of clothing between the two of you. Sperm are good swimmers, but they cannot make their way through multiple layers of clothing. If your penis slipped outside of your shorts and underwear and if her thong was slipped to the side, then it would be possible to get pregnant in this way. Sperm die as they dry out. It needs a moist environment to survive for any length of time. I am glad that the two of you have found a pleasurable way to enjoy 'outercourse' sex together. Dry humping can also be a very effective method for women to learn to be orgasmic and for men to learn that penetration is not necessary for a pleasurable, orgasmic sexual experience. So, I am glad that the two of you are having pleasurable sex in this way. However, why not take the worry out of it by using contraception/safer sex methods? Then, you can just have pure fun and none of the concern. I would suggest that you try using a condom while dry humping. Your girlfriend can also use a diaphragm, contraceptive sponge, or contraceptive inserts or gel. These can add several layers of protection from pregnancy as well as help with sexually transmitted infection prevention. By using these methods, the two of you will be able to focus more on the pleasure you're having and less on the worry about an unplanned pregnancy. Take care and write back if you have any further questions. Thanks, Patty Fawver
