Question:
I'm 3 months pregnant. Since I got pregnant, every time I have sex, I get swollen "down there". What could be the problem?

Answer:

When you are pregnant, your body retains a lot of extra fluid. This may be especially noticeable in lower parts of your body. Many women also notice that this happens in their vaginal area. This is not necessarily abnormal. If there is any bleeding, discharge, or odor, you should have this checked out, but if there's only swelling, it's usually not a problem. You might want to ask your obstetrician what he/she thinks about this issue to make sure there's nothing else going on. Good luck. Sandra Welner, MD
