The symptoms of herpes include the following: - painful, reddish bumps, sores or lesions on the genitals, thighs, or buttocks/anus that may be tender and itchy - burning urination or problems urinating - fever - headache - aches and pains - swollen glands - pain in the legs, buttocks, or genital area prior to an outbreak - feeling of pressure in the abdomen Many people who are infected with herpes do not even know that they are infected. Many are simply carriers of the virus and never have symptoms. If there is any chance that you could have herpes, you should get tested. This not only gives you peace of mind, but allows you to receive treatment if need be. Furthermore, to avoid tranmitting the disease, or other STDs and HIV, you should use a condom during sexual activity. Thank you for visiting the Sexual Health Network.
