Question:
Hi, my problem is premature ejaculation. If I am masturbating, or with someone, I ejaculate prematurely, even though I try not to. After that happens, the erection goes down too. Are there any suggestions you have that will help this?
Thanks

Answer: by Julian Slowinski: (05/19/2004)
Difficulties with controlling ejaculation are quite common. There are a
number of theories about the cause of rapid ejaculation (premature
ejaculation- PE), including: simply highly aroused sexual excitement;
initial anxiety about sex with a new partner; worrying about it happening
AGAIN with a regular partner; individual differences between men and their
ability to control ejaculation; relationship and partner issues; certain
medical conditions which a physician can evaluate.
Traditional treatments have involved practicing stop-start exercises with
masturbation or sex with a partner to taking advantage of the side effects
of some of the newer antidepressant (SSRI) medications which can inhibit
ejaculation. Worrying about it make PE a self-predicting problem. Traditional
techniques for treating PE are often outlined in up to date books by
qualified professionals (for example, see The Sexual Male: Problems &
Solutions, Milsten & Slowinski). While treating PE is often met with
considerable success, it is aways important to continue to pay attention to
what has worked and not to get back into old habits which can contribute to a
return of symptoms. For peace of mind, seeking professional advice is always
a wise option.
