Thank you for your question. First of all, do not worry that too much masturbation is keeping you from keeping an erection when you are about to have intercourse.
This is actually a very common problem for men when they are first having intercourse. There is a different type of anxiety when you are with a partner that you don't have when you masturbate. There is no pressure to perform, or worry about what your partner is thinking or feeling.
You also know how to make yourself aroused when you masturbate. With a partner, we often depend on the partner to help us get aroused and the sensation is not at all the same. This makes it even more important that we help a partner touch us in some of the same ways that we touch ourselves when we masturbate.
Having intercourse doesn't just make sex better. When we are with a partner there are many other things that change the act. Some men even masturbate with a partner to get and keep the erection. It also really helps to teach the partner how to touch with either body, hands or mouth.
Almost any of these ways stimulate an erection. You also need to make sure that you are not taking any alcohol or drugs just before you have intercourse. These can also depress your body so that arousal isn't easy.
I hope this helps and if you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.Reviewed by: Patricia Fawver Ph.D. in Sexology
