Question:
Hello, I am a 25 year old female and I have a question with regard to the hymen. Is it possible to have your hymen break after 9 years of being sexually active with multiple partners? Recently during intercourse, I bled so much(to the point where it frightened me)for about 2-4min and then it stopped and it has never happened since. After this many years and times, could my hymen break now? Can you think of another explaination?

After nine years of sexual activity, the bleeding you experienced could not have been your hymen breaking. It sounds like menstrual "spotting", which occasionally occurs in women during a non-period time in their cycle. Or perhaps, if vigorous thrusting was taking place during sexual intercourse, it may have been a slight bleeding of the cervix. To ease your mind and to make sure that everything is okay, I would recommend that you go see a physician to have everything checked out. Thank you for visiting the Sexual Health Network. Yvonne K.
