Question:
What could cause a man to be unable to either climax or ejaculate after prolonged intercourse? This is a fairly recent (last 6 mos) problem.

Answer:
by Julian Slowinski:
(05/18/2004)
This is not an unusual complaint. Some men do state difficulty in ejaculating after prolonged intercourse. Some even complain about "losing the urge" to ejaculate after prolonged stimulation. Several important questions might be explored. What are the circumstances when having sex? What is the age of the man? Is this a new relationship? Is there fear of getting the partner pregnant? Are there relationship problems? Is there desire to be sexual, and is there adequate arousal? Does the man ever stop intercourse and resume sex later? Was there a concern before? Are alcohol, medications, or drugs involved? Does ejaculation occur more rapidly at other times (for example, with masturbation, oral sex, shorter attempts at intercourse? Some clarity may be raised by exploring these questions. Consulting a physician or a sex therapsit may be a place to start if the problems persists. Dr. Slowinski
