Question:
This is a strange thing for me, but lately, with my boyfriend of two years, the sex has been painful and annoying. I feel like I want to have sex with him a lot, but when he wants to I am disgusted by it. I love him and I want to be able to have intercourse. I just don't know what's wrong.

You mentioned an important thing in your additional information: That you have a whitish, foul smelling discharge and you are wondering whether that can have anything to do with the pain. My answer is "definitely yes!" You need to see a health practitioner because it seems to me that you might have a sexually transmitted infection (STI). It can probably be treatetd easily, but you need to go and see someone who can do the necessary tests. It might be that once that problem clears up you will feel different about having sex with your boyfriend. If not, I encourage you to see a sex counselor or therapist. You can locate such a professional through www.aasect.org, the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists. Sincerely, Annette Owens, MD PhD
