Question:
My boyfriend just returned from studying abroad for six months. We did not date other people during this period. When he returned, he started getting headaches during foreplay that increase upon orgasm. He's only been back a few days and it's happened every time we've had sex. It's gotten to the point where his head will start to hurt during foreplay and he won't want to have sex.

Headaches or migraines may be triggered by a variety of precipitating factors. However, It is quite unusual for such headaches to be triggered by sexual intercourse. A neurologist would be the most qualified in headache management. Treatment regimens for headaches and migraines have advanced significantly during the past decade so I advice your boyfriend to see a neurologist to evaluate the condition. Occasionally headaches may be the presenting symptom for serious medical conditions so it would be safest to undergo medical evaluation as soon as possible. Best wishes.Reviewed by Sexual Health Editorial Team
