Question:
The concern I have is regarding the color and consistency of my ejaculate. If I do not ejaculate for more than 5 to 6 weeks, it becomes very thick with an amber color to it. It has a very hard time coming out and often just a small amount of clear fluid is present. It takes about ten ejaculations for it to return to normal. During frequent ejaculations (once a week or so), my ejaculate is normal as is my libido. What may be the problem?

Thanks for contacting sexualhealth.com. In your mail you said it takes a harder time to come out if you donot ejaculate for a few weeks. Do you experience any pain or burning sensation while ejaculting or a little after that? Do you take a lot more time to ejaculate or lot more effort to. What "in your opinion" is the cause?
You also wrote that it takes about 10 ejaculations to return to normal. What exactly do you mean by "normal". If I understand what precisely you mean I could give you a better answer. For the time being, please be assured that the the ejaculate appears thicker with long gap between ejaculations while frequent ejaculations make it thinner. Also if you have prolonged sexual arousal before you ejaculate the latter is likely to be thinner. There will be some darker coloration to the semen with prolonged abstinence but it would not be amber color. Amber color frequently indicates traces of blood in semen which in turn may mean infection somewhere in the seminal vesicles or prostate or in the urethra. A consultation with the urologist should alleviate your concerns and problem, if any. Best wishes.Reviewed by Sexual Health Editorial Team
