Question:
The vaginal discharge from my girlfriend during sex is white in color, not clear in color as I have read from lots of people. Is this normal? The discharge smells okay.

From what you describe, it seems that your girlfriend's vaginal discharge during sex is perfectly normal. Normal, healthy vaginal discharge is scant or sticky, clear or white, has a mild odor, and may dry to a yellowish color on a female's underwear. The consistency, quantity, and odor of vaginal lubrication varies considerably from woman to woman, and from day to day of a woman's ovulation cycle. For most of a woman's ovulation cycle, her vaginal mucosa will be cloudy, white, and/or tacky - becoming clearer and more slippery as ovulation (the point in her cycle during which an egg is released from the ovaries) approaches. In the days prior to ovulation, the amount of mucus discharge increases and becomes clearer. It remains that way for 1-2 peak days, becoming slippery and stringy - like raw egg white for that time period - before becoming a cloudy state for the majority of her cycle once again. Glad you asked! Yvonne K. Fulbright, MS.Ed. Sexual Health Network
