Question:
My problem is that I have been experiencing somewhat of an odor during sex and have been told that a woman's diet can affect the odor of her secretions. I have a pap every 6 mo. and nothing irregular has ever came up. Is this a true statement, and if so, is red meat a factor?

A woman's diet certainly affects the smell and taste of her vaginal secretions. Some foods have stronger effects than others, i.e. soy sauce. I am not sure, however, how much of an impact red meat would have on vaginal secretions. If it is something you're concerned about, perhaps you can refrain from eating red meat for a while to see if you notice a difference. Thank you for visiting the Sexual Health Network. Yvonne K.
