I'm worried about the fact that my penis has a large amount of white heads arounds its base. I was curious as to how i could get rid of these in order to have clear skin?

Answer: by Georgan Gregg: ()
Would it help if you knew this was very common? And that they many not be white heads at all? The only way to be sure is to have your doctor check the bumps to give a medical opinion, but let me tell you what it sounds like, ok?
Hair follicles are on the scrotum & shaft of the penis, although the hairs may not be visible. Sebaceous glands are found wherever hairs are found. They produce a white oily substance called sebum, & if squeezed this material can be pushed out. It’s not advisable to squeeze them because it hurts & may cause them to become infected. Sebaceous cysts occur anywhere & are caused by a blocked sebaceous gland forcing the sebum to build up into a cyst. Sebaceous glands usually can’t be seen because skin is thick enough to hide it. However, on the thin, fine skin of the penis, sebaceous glands may be very prominent. These glands may be the white heads you describe.
When hairs produced by the hair follicles are fine & invisible, the sebaceous glands connected to the follicle are often large. Therefore, when you look at the skin of the penis you’re likely to notice the prominent bump of the sebaceous gland. Next time you visit a medical person ask them to see if that’s what they think, too, & ease your mind. Contact us again if we can be of help.Reviewed by: Patricia Fawver Ph.D. in Sexology
