Question:
Will there be a possibility of pregnancy if I have unprotected intercourse while I'm menstruating?

Answer:

While it is unlikely... Yes- there is a slight possibility. However, it is more likely that you would be risking pregnancy in the middle of your cycle - meaning 12-14 days before you menstruate. A woman typically ovulates during this time - and if the egg is not fertilized by a sperm, menstruation occurs about 2 weeks later. Please know that ovulation varies dramatically from woman to woman - so if you are not sure when you ovulate, you are risking pregnancy Also, sperm have been kown to live several days. It may be useful for you to meet with someone who works in a familiy planning clinic to go over the various methods avaialble to prevent pregnancy.
