Question:
hello, I am a healthly 20 year old male. When I was an adolescent I noticed that the vas deferens on my left testes was bigger than the one on the right. It is not exactly swollen - the tubes seem bigger, and on certain occasions when its very cold, the vas deferens gets bigger and takes a more solid shape. I haven't experienced any real pain, but have noticed certain discomforts on occasion. I am planning on seeing a physician in the near future. I would like to know if you would have any explanation to this, and where to receive help if need be.

I am not sure that it is the vas deferens that you are feeling, but I could be wrong. First of all, you seem to have had this condition for a number of years and without any major discomfort. Anything that suddenly changes should always cause alarm, especially if it involves your testicles. I think it is a good idea to have a doctor look at it. A physical examination of your testicles will reveal a lot of information. I am wondering whether you possibly are having a hernia on the left side, which passes into your scrotum and occasionally causes some discomfort. This could explain why you sometimes are feeling a more solid shape. Your doctor will be able to diagnose you and tell you about the treatment options, if necessary. Good luck Sincerely, Annette Owens, MD PhD
