Question:
I am 44 year old newly divorced. I recently had my first experience of oral sex performed on me. We did have protected sex. The next morning I was sore. We had sex again the next night, and my boyfriend is very in to oral sex and has incredible indurance. I am so sore I can hardly stand the pain. I have redness, swelling and little bumps, like ingrown hairs. This is my first boyfriend after 25 years of fidelity. Could I have contacted something from him or did he just get to rough? It had been 3 months since my last intercourse? Will I get used to this?

In having oral sex performed on you, the biggest STD you need to worry about is the herpes virus. Based on the symptoms you describe, it does not sound like you're in pain because of that. Since your boyfriend has a beard, your irritation is most likely due to how rough that can be on delicate tissue. Your skin is probably having a reaction to that. Given you don't want to deal with this every time you have sex, it would be a good idea to ask your boyfriend to be gentler with you, explaining that while cunnilingus turns you on, you're in pain. He should be sensitive to that. Another option is to ask him to get rid of the beard, though neither of you may be crazy about that. Thank you for visiting the Sexual Health Network. Yvonne K.
