Question:
Hello Dr. Ganhem, I am 30 years old. I have been suffering for the last 3 months from a wound on my pennis. It is a painful wound that look like a skin rush right below the top part of the pennis. If I am not sexually active the pain and the wound dissapear. Then I Think is gone. But when back to any sexual activity, there it comes is again: burning, very sligthly bleeding and eventually getting swollen as well. I have tried an Hydrocortisone cream before but is just made it worse, very painfuly hurting to the contact. Do you think is a kind of fungus? What can I do about it? Thank you very much for your attention

Please stop the hydrocortisone cream and visit a doctor without delay. You need to visit a venereal disease specialist or a sexually transmitted disease clinic. If that’s not available, you may consult a dermatologist. The most common causes of genital ulcers include: 1) Infections: e.g. Syphilis, Herpes, Chancroid, Granuloma inguinale, lymphogranuloma venereum. 2) Traumatic 3) Fixed drug eruption Genital ulcers at your age are most commonly benign and can be easily treated but serious complications may occur if left without medical attention. Associated STDs resulting from unprotected sexual intercourse must also be excluded. Best wishes, Hussein Ghanem, MD
