Hi: you describe pain when your vagina contains a penis.. you used the word "penetration"..ouch, either way! Sex should not hurt physically or emotionally. It could be simple things. For example, sometimes it may mean you are not lubricated enough and you need longer foreplay. Lack of lubrication could casue vaginal irritations which can be easily dealt with. For some women use of oral contraceptives cause some vaginal dryness. You may want to try some vaginal lubricants such a K-Y Jelly or other lubricants that are specifically made for vaginal or genital use. Do not use hand cream, vaseline, or other lubricants not prepared specially for the vagina or genital area as they may cause worse problems. They are not designed to be water soluble and therefore will not dissolve in the vagina. Let an examination ease your pains : both the worry and the physical pain. Planned Parenthood is a good place to start, or a woman's clinic, or your own personal physician. There are also people who specialize in pain in the vagina and on the vulva, which is the area around the opening to the vagina. If there are no simple solutions, write us again and let us know your location and we can suggest a specialist. Good luck.. take care of yourself.
