Biography: Linda R. Mona, Ph.D. has conducted research, facilitated clinically oriented workshops, and lectured on sexuality and physical disability topics around the country for the past ten years. Trained in clinical psychology, Dr. Mona has worked in a variety of settings conducting both clinical work and research. Her interest and contributions to the realm of sexuality and disability have been fueled by her own experience living with a disability and her concern for the sexual health and satisfaction of other persons with disabilities. She obtained her BA in psychology at UCLA and both her masters and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology at Georgia State University. As a graduate student, Dr. Mona taught the psychology of human sexuality class for two years to undergraduate students. Within this role, Dr. Mona was provided with the opportunity to teach students about sexuality and disability, a topic that is often not covered in most sex education courses. In addition, Dr. Mona has advocated for the inclusion of disability status in university diversity curriculum and has been the energy behind positive changes for university students with disabilities at both the administrative and service levels. She has received national recognition by the Association on Higher Education and Disability, the American Psychological Association, and the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality for her research and service-related work focusing upon persons with disabilities. Furthermore, Dr. Mona has published her work in the journal of Sexuality and Disability in addition to other academic-related publications. Dr. Mona completed a combined clinical and research postdoctoral fellowship at the Palo Alto Veterans Administration where she conducted clinical work and research in one of the largest sexual dysfunction clinics in the veterans affairs system. In fact, she assisted with the development of a sexuality clinic for veterans with spinal cord injuries. Currently, Dr. Mona is working as a research associate for the World Institute on Disability in Oakland, California, where she is working for the Research and Training Centers on Independent Living and Disability Policy and Personal Assistance Services.
