Sexual Health eBook Volume2 Chapter 1Systems that Contribute to Sexual Response and Expression, Mitchell S. TepperThis chapter will serve as an overall introduction to Sexual Health, volume
2,
Physical Foundations. Although the focus of this volume and chapter
is on physical foundations or bodily systems, it is next to impossible to
isolate physical sexual response and expression from internal and external
psychological, moral, and cultural influences on sexual health. In the following
pages I will describe the way I teach about sexual health (sexual health
being defined in the broadest context in chapter 1, volume 1) to physicians,
physician assistants, psychologists, nurses, other allied health and rehabilitation
professionals, and laypersons grappling with the effects of various medical
conditions and disabilities.
The groundwork I lay in my teaching to these populations serves as the foundation
from which they can learn to treat or deal with bodily level structural or
functional impairments that may have an effect on sexual activities (related
to tasks and actions by an individual) and participation (involvement in a
life situation), taking into consideration the severity of functional impairments
and environmental factors. Two models for assessing the multidimensional, interactive,
and dynamic impact of chronic conditions and disabilities on sexual health
will be presented along with specific suggestions for coping with breaches
in the physical foundations of sexual health discussed in chapter 14 of this
volume. Sexual Health eBook Volume2 Chapter 1 $20 http://www.1shoppingcart.com/app/netcart.asp?MerchantID=104436&ProductID=3537140
