Love and Relationships: Sexual Addiction and Compulsion
Sexual Addiction and Compulsion Introduction: There is a difference between frequently thinking about and being involved in sexual relationships, and being what people refer to as a “sex addict.” This controversial diagnosis involves, according to Dana E. Putnam, PhD, “sexual behavior that significantly interferes with a person's life. The behavior may result in harm to a person's relationships, work, health, and / or psychological well being. Despite experiencing the harmful affects of their behavior, the person with a sexual addiction continues the behavior." It is impossible to diagnose a sexual compulsion or addiction without seeing a trained counselor or therapist who has experience working in this area.
